I grew up in multiple cities. My step dad was in the United States Army so we moved alot. My favorite activity is reading, writing, singing and hanging with my family and friends. One of the greatest obstacles is being diagnosed with a brain tumor. After brain surgery and radiation and prayer I have been doing great I then decided that now was the time to go after my dream.
Is there a quote that you live by? Please tell us why.
One of my favorite of all times are If God brought you to it he will bring you through it.
Nursing Students: Why do you want to become a nurse?
I want to become a nurse because I have always had a passion for taking care of people.
Nursing Students: What do you think will be your favorite part of the job?
I think the favorite part of the job will be interacting with new people on a day to day basis.
Nursing Students: Which area of nursing do you want to go into (ER, OR, ICU, LTC, FNP, or other specialty area of nursing)?
I would love to work in the trauma center and in the neonatal unit. The trauma center will allow me to work at a fast pace as well as allow me to meet the needs of the patient on a deep level as I work as a team in saving lives. I myself have had a personal experience with the neonatal unit so I know how important it is to have someone there to be that shoulder you need to lean on. I would be able to give a personal touch.
Nursing Students: What is your favorite or toughest subject? How can someone prepare for it?
Anatomy is a great subject because you get to learn about the human body on another level. The subject I hate the most would be math, it has never been my favorite subject. I don’t think there is anyway to prepare for class, you just have to be determined and focus, organization is the key.
Nursing Students: How are you financing your education? Do you get tuition reimbursement?
I applied for a Pell Grant and i get some of the money back after my tuition is paid.
Nursing Students: How do you manage your time with your family and job?
It gets hard sometimes trying to manage school, work , and a family of six that includes my oldest son who was recently injured, and active daughter and son who loves sports, and my two nieces who have come to live with me. I try to stay organized and a schedule is a must but it get done everyday.
Nursing Students: What do you think will be the biggest drawback of being a nurse?
My greatness challenge would be the schedule and if I ever lost a patient.
Nurses and Nursing Students: What advice would you offer to anyone who wants to become a nurse or attend nursing school?
You have to be passionate and dedicated, because if your passionate you want stop once it gets hard and believe me it will get hard. Remember the reward will be great. Let me know what you think and if there are any questions.
