(1996-2011) – Celebrating 15 years in business

What motivated you to open your own business?

I have always been inspired as a youth to bring smiles to the faces of others and to help. Thus blossomed my “calling” event planning, training and design.  At an early age I was planning “tea parties” at home with my friends and tutoring 5 year olds during my lunch hour in middle school as opposed to playing. I was destined to what I do with splendor!

Did you have any initial fears or concerns that you had to overcome when opening your business?

No fears for some reason. I always had the passion and brought it to fruition one day and it flourished from there.

How did you develop your concept?

I have always been a true “individual” I developed my nitch by looking inside of my own personality and talents and sharing those traits and “style” with others.

How much capital did you need to get started? Did you use any creative funding sources?

I used my own capital and developed a marketing plan to execute it. I analyzed the goals of my company and then determined what I could invest. YES, I took a risk!

How do you market your business? Do you use any creative marketing strategies?
I have a degree in marketing and sales which enables me to use creative techniques I.e. video promos, websites and social media to market my companies.
How do you manage employees if any?

My employees are individuals that have apprenticed, trained or mentored with me and I afford them the opportunity to learn while working and seeing first hand what to expect. Hands on is the best way to learn and to gain viable experience.

What are some of your day to day struggles as a business owner?

Each day is a day of new and innovative ideas. Sometimes after 15 years in business, it becomes a challenge and requires that I take a “moment” to reflect and then the ideas come in clearly.

What brings you the most joy from your work?

My joy stems from a satisfied, repeat and referring customer and requests to speak, advise and consult others and share my expertise and knowledge.

How do you balance work life and family? Do your work demands affect your relationships?

As an entrepreneur, I make sure to balance work, fun, family and life in general by prioritizing and allowing myself to “take a break” from working. Balance is important.

Any advice you’d like to offer to anyone interested in your line of work?

It is imperative to have “passion”, I mean true “passion” for your craft, business or company and operate it like a professional business. Get training, attend workshops and be knowledgeable about your industry and your product, service or company.  Ensure that you mentor, apprentice or intern; and find an expert in your field to glean knowledge, guidance and direction from. INVEST in yourself.
